• At tonight's show, which starts at
7 p.m., DeGarmo will perform along with gymnasts Carly
Patterson and Paul Hamm and skaters Brian Boitano, Elvis
Stojko, Yuka Sato and Michael Weiss. Tickets start at $20,
and are still available. (Info: www.gwinnettcenter.com or 404-249-6400). "It's a family-oriented show," DeGarmo said. "Anybody of any age can come. All the skaters and gymnasts are really great." • She leaves town tomorrow, bound for San Jose, Calif., where she'll play the lead role of Maria in the American Musical Theatre of San Jose's production of "West Side Story." The theater called and asked her to audition for the role. "It's a totally new experience for me. I've always loved theater," DeGarmo said. By the way, she won't have to part with her blonde locks for the role, which calls for a brunette. A wig will get the job done. • Having parted ways with record company RCA earlier this year, DeGarmo has not signed on with another. "At the moment, I really don't need one because of where I am in my career," she said. "The time will come; we've just got to see who fits the best." • She is working on a second album, which she hopes will be released next year. The as-yet-untitled work will be "a little more edgy, more funky," than her debut album, "Blue Skies." • DeGarmo says she is still interested in college, where she may pursue a business degree with an emphasis on entertainment management. "Sometime soon," she said. "I've got to work on my career a little bit first. I love performing live. That's probably my favorite thing in the whole world." • She hasn't read the new memoir by Fantasia Barrino, in which the past "American Idol" winner admits she can't read or write. "I didn't know," DeGarmo said of Barrino's illiteracy. "It was news to a lot of people." • What's next on her agenda? "I'm looking forward to just having fun. I think '06 is going to be a really fun year for me. It's going to be big and bad!" Source: http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/gwinnett/1005/12diana.html |
